Biography and previous work

I am a final year undergraduate student on the MEng Bioengineering course. I joined the Natural Materials Group in September 2014 to find out more about the many applications of silk, whilst exploring whether research is an appealing route for me to pursue following graduation.

Current Work

My project involves unspinning silk from different species of silkworm. The silk fibres are aligned to create a square mesh, where the different types of silk from various species become overlapped. Cells will then be cultured on the mesh, before being stained to examine which natural silk the cells are most viable on. The optimal spacing between the silk fibres for cell proliferation will also be studied.

Personal interests

Outwith my studies, I enjoy reading, cooking and knitting.
